VIJI REDDY

Indian-American Artist,

Founder and Design Director of Alamwar

Viji Reddy is an artist and ceramicist, and the founder and design director of Alamwar, a luxury lifestyle brand based in Hyderabad, India and the United States. Deeply committed to slow fashion and sustainable design, her work is guided by a desire to preserve India’s handloom heritage and traditional textile arts such as block printing, hand painting and hand embroidery.

Through Alamwar, she has built an artisan-led collective that brings together artisans, women makers and master weavers, translating their time-honored skills into contemporary luxury textiles, home furnishings, and wearable art that celebrate craft, culture, and conscious living.

The Intuitive Space

I approach space design as an intuitive extension of the human experience. My philosophy is rooted in the belief that a home should be a living mirror, reflecting a client’s personal journey, their taste, and the subtle rhythms of their lifestyle. In my practice, functionality is the foundation, but the soul of a room is found in the layering—the deliberate act of sourcing and collecting pieces that carry weight and history.

My aesthetic is a result of a lifelong global odyssey. Having traveled through Asia, Africa, Europe, and the Americas, my eye has been honed to recognize the poetry in a hand-woven carpet, the silhouette of an antique chest, or the intricate narrative of a textile. I find a particular joy in the hunt—scouring antique stores and vintage markets across the globe. There is a certain magic in the unexpected discovery; you never know where a piece with the perfect patina or a forgotten story will turn up. These experiences allow the lines between genres to blur; I do not adhere to a single style, but rather to a timelessness that emerges when diverse worlds are woven together.

For 25 years, I have navigated the intersection of craft and commerce. My tenure as the Design Director for Alamwar has been both a dream and a profound challenge: creating cutting-edge products for the niche home and fashion industry while staying fiercely loyal to the original concepts of the artisans. For me, design is inseparable from preservation and empowerment. My long-standing associations with a global network of weavers, textile printers, embroiderers, and stone carvers allow me to bridge the gap between ancient techniques and modern needs.

As an Indian-American designer, my forte lies in creating a global visual language that speaks to the contemporary soul. I design for those who seek to showcase their ancestry and history while fully inhabiting the modern world. Whether sourcing bespoke pieces from American companies or collaborating with master makers in India to create custom furniture and textiles, my goal is to create environments that are not just "decorated," but evolved—spaces that are classic, enduring, and capable of growing alongside the people who call them home.
