Ayurvan
Waterside, A Sanctuary of Elemental Harmony

The Bangala: An Architectural Legacy

The residence is a contemporary masterpiece of the traditional "Bangala"—the linguistic and architectural precursor to the bungalow. Designed for airflow and light, the structure features a breathtaking central courtyard open to the sky.

  • The Sacred Courtyard: Framed by antique wooden temple columns and indigenous flora, the central void allows the home to breathe as a single, seamless composition.

  • The Veranda Gallery: A sweeping veranda connects the heart of the home to its interiors, serving as a curated gallery for intricate carvings, hand-loomed textiles, and traditional brass vessels.

Contemplative Seating: Bespoke furniture arrangements are placed to facilitate both conversation and stillness, allowing guests to intake the scent of the garden and the quiet majesty of the setting.

A Living Museum of Telangana The interior is a profound homage to the cultural soul of Telangana, South India. Viji has curated the space as a "Living Museum" where the architectural skeleton is softened by regional heritage: Ancestral Materiality: Utilitarian brass vessels are recontextualized as sculptural art. The Textile Narrative: Hand-loomed weaves from the Deccan plateau add tactile warmth and honor artisanal lineage. Rooted in Ritual & Earth Ayurvan is more than a residence; it is a working landscape of active stewardship. The gardens and farm plantings reflect the family’s deep connection to the earth’s cycles of planting and harvest. Designed as a vessel for communal celebration, Ayurvan serves as a sacred stage for traditional festivals. Here, the preservation of heritage is a joyful act, renewing the bond between family, history, and the land through shared ritual and the "Architecture of Stillness." The space is anchored by bespoke furniture arrangements, designed by Viji to facilitate both conversation and contemplation. These seating areas allow inhabitants and guests alike to pause and intake the peaceful setting, where the scent of the garden and the view of the temple columns create an atmosphere of profound stillness. The Interior: A Living Museum of Telangana The heart of the home lies in its interior narrative—a profound homage to the cultural soul of Telangana, South India. Viji has curated the space as a "Living Museum," where the architectural skeleton is softened by a meticulously selected collection of regional heritage. Ancestral Materiality: The spaces are punctuated by utilitarian brass vessels, once central to the daily rituals of South Indian life, now recontextualized as sculptural art. The Textile Narrative: Hand-loomed textiles from the region—known for their intricate weaves—are layered throughout, adding a tactile warmth that honors the artisanal lineage of the Deccan plateau. The Living Landscape: Rooted in the Earth The gardens and farm plantings at Ayurvan are a living reflection of the family’s ethos. Every tree planted and every crop cultivated serves as a testament to their deep-seated connection to the earth. This "working landscape" is a space of active stewardship, where the family remains rooted to nature through the rhythmic cycles of planting and harvest. Ritual and Preservation: The Joy of Tradition Ayurvan was designed as a vessel for communal celebration. It serves as a sacred stage for traditional festivals, where the primary purpose is the joyful preservation of heritage. These gatherings—shared with family and friends—ensure that ancient customs remain vibrant. In these moments of shared ritual, the bond between the people, their history, and the land is continually renewed. Architecture of Stillness Rooted in the belief that nature is the ultimate healer, Ayurvan is designed to invite connection. Elemental Fluidity: Water features provide a cooling sensory backdrop, their gentle movement echoing the "quiet pulse" of the gardens. Organic Textures: From weathered stone to hand-treated timber, every material was selected for its tactile quality, ensuring the environment feels warm, expansive, and deeply restorative.
